OUR MISSION

The Prosperity Council of Waterloo Region is a federation formed to collectively create an environment that supports opportunities for prosperity in Waterloo region. The Council is comprised of representatives of its founding partners: the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber, Cambridge Chamber, Canada's Technology Triangle Inc. and Communitech Technology Association. Together these organizations represent more than 3,400 businesses in Waterloo region.

Prosperity, for the purposes of this Council, involves initiatives and policies that support wealth creation, supporting the objectives of enhancing our standard of living and overall quality of life.

The 1st Annual Prosperity Forum of Waterloo Region was held in 2003. In attendance, were local business leaders, government representatives, business organizations and associations. The objective for participants at the Prosperity Forum was

"to identify, champion and hold ourselves collectively responsible for the tangible directions required over the next decade to ensure prosperity for our region, so that we can become the best we can be".

The Prosperity Council is committed to positioning Waterloo Region - Canada's Technology Triangle - as the region of choice for new investment and talent. The establishment of the "Good to Great Agenda" adopted by the participants at the Prosperity Forum seeks to raise the ambition of the community and resulted in the collective commitment to five key directions.

They include:

  1. Build a collaborative vision based on the Prosperity model (strategy, tactics and measures) for the region.
  2. Brand and market this region as one successful area for business, arts and lifestyle.
  3. Enhance regional health institutions with state-of-the-art facilities to attract and keep physicians and build expertise.
  4. Strengthen local post secondary institutions in size, quality, and impact to attract and keep highly talented people.
  5. Create and fund a regional arts and culture development and promotion body.

The four co-ordinating partners of the Prosperity Forum have been meeting on a regular basis to further our principal objectives to ensure prosperity for our Region.
